Poppy
The poppy bends to early squall,
Velvet dance,
Its petals soar as empires fall,
Unshaken.
A blood-red bloom on blistered ground,
Sidewalk cracks,
Its roots rebuke where bans are bound,
Dirt’s revolt.
No man can halt what earth has sown,
Futile war,
For Mother claims her seeds as own,
Nature's gift.
Her fire burns where none can tread,
Heroine,
Through blousy fields where dreams are shed,
Heroin.
